Lecturers from the School of Science, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kevin David Hyde and Assist. Prof. Dr. Ekachai Chukeatirote were named as the highly cited researchers in Plant & Animal Science category in the latest edition of the Highly Cited Researchers List produced by Clarivate Analytics .
Highly Cited Researchers is an annual list recognizing leading researchers in the sciences and social sciences from around the world. The list features more than 3,400 researchers in 21 fields, who produced a remarkable number of highly cited papers in the Web of Science database over the period 2005-2015. The citation analysis was determined by the extent to which their papers have supported, influenced, inspired and challenged other researchers around the globe.
Sorting by country, Mae Fah Luang University had two out of five researchers from Thailand on the list. This indeed indicates the position of MFU as a top institution in Thailand. Moreover, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kevin David Hyde and Assist. Prof. Dr. Ekachai Chukeatirote were considered influential researchers as shown by their work having earned distinction by being the most active, visible, and meaningful research in their specialty area in plant and animal science.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kevin David Hyde is the Head of the Center of Excellence in Fungal Research and his research fields cover Biodiversity and Taxonomy of Fungi while Assist. Prof. Dr. Ekachai Chukeatirote has expertise in Microbial Biotechnology. The Center of Excellence in Fungal Research was established at Mae Fah Luang University with the purpose of becoming a leading organization in Thailand and Asia, carrying out research, training and community development in the key areas of fungi diversity and its application. The Center of Excellence focuses on research excellence, productivity and community development. The Center does research on plant pathology and endophytes, mushroom growing, mushroom strain improvement, biodiversity and chemical discovery from fungi and fungal diversity, function and global change.
The center has brought together MFU post-harvest disease experts, research scientists and visiting professors from Thailand and aboard in coordinated research efforts. Also, the center published more than 500 SCI research articles in 2016, successfully enrolls more than six new PhD students each year, and participates in community development projects using edible and other beneficial fungi.
All in all, the production of multiple top 1% papers shows MFU’s full intention to support the study of fungi and determination to become a leading research centre in Thailand, Asia and the world. The great achievements of the centre are also demonstrated by the impact of our scientific researchers, our increasing number of PhD. students, and the growing number of MFU papers bing published in international academic journals.
