      The second part of the “Myanmar-Thailand Higher Education Institutions Leadership and Networking Programme” was organised at the University of Mandalay and Tuanggyi University from 16-20 October 2017 to carry on with the intention to develop human capacity and to foster academic partnership between Myanmar and Thai higher education institutions.

      The programme was initiated as a pilot project in accordance with the International Academic Cooperation Strategy with the Neighboring Countries of the Office of Higher Education Commission, the Ministry of Education of Thailand. The main purpose of the programme was to enhance and deepen higher education networks between Myanmar and Thailand for future collaborative projects. Moreover, this programme emphasized enhancing capacity of higher education institution leaders of Myanmar and Thailand through the exchanges of good practices as well.

      This programme was divided into two parts; a 5-day in Thailand from 26-30 June 2017 was followed by another 5 days in Myanmar. There were 14 Rectors and executives from both Thailand’s and Myanmar’s higher education institutions participating in this leadership workshop which included Rectors of University of Mandalay, Myeik University, University of Sittway, Taunggyi University, Kyaing Tong University, Mawlamyine University, and University of Yangon and Executives from Chiang Mai University, Narasuan University, Kanchanaburi Rajabhat University, Chiang Rai Rajabhat University, North-Chiang Mai University, Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna, and Mae Fah Luang University.

      With encouraging and intensive content, the programme advanced the participants’ leadership skills, enabled them to exchange perspectives on higher education management system and discovered cooperation possibilities between the two countries. Additionally, participants had an opportunity to build up and strengthen the network of Myanmar-Thailand Higher Education Institutions

      Moreover, this programme has been a promising success and has produced fruitful outcomes. Academic collaboration in various activities and fields has been planned to meet the needs of people in both countries through staff exchanges as well as joint research, and training and researcher workshops.
