On 15 December 2021, Ms. Kuenzang Dema, a student from the School of Social Innovation was invited to participate as the representative of Mae Fah Luang University Model United Nation (MFU MUN) along with the youth representatives of Chula MUN, Mahidol MUN, Thamasat MUN, Chiang Mai MUN, and UNODC in a reception in Commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of Thailand’s Membership in the United Nations at the Vithes Samosorn Hall, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangkok.
The event organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted on Thailand’s commitment to the United Nations with the aim to raise awareness among the Thai public, specifically the younger generations on the roles of the United Nations and Thailand’s engagement which had contributed to the global peace and prosperity. There were several honoured guests attending the event including the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai; the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana; the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Thailand, Ms. Gita Sabharwal, the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, the most senior Ambassadors from the different regional groups to Thailand and representatives of youth groups such as Model United Nations (MUN), UNODC Youth Forum 2022, ECOSOC Youth Forum 2019, Speaking Hub Project and UNGA Youth Delegate 2019.
Ms. Kuenzang Dema expressed that “Through the event, I acknowledged the roles we, as a youth, have for the future of our world, and what we can do to make it a better place for our future generations. I also acknowledged the history of Thailand’s membership in UN since 1946, the responsibility Thailand successfully took up till date, as a reliable and constructive member and a development partner of the United Nations.”
Ms. Kuenzang Dema is a member of Mae Fah Luang’s Model United Nations (MUN). In 2020, she joined the Chulalongkorn Model United Nations 2020 and engaged in MFU-MUN with the UN: Our Future in Our Hand 2020.
