MFU Holds “Tree Planting Activity” to Welcome New Students and Promote Environmental Conservation

     On 20 August 2022, Mae Fah Luang University led by the Student Union and the Student Development Affairs Division held “Doi’s Trail 2022 (Tree Planting activity) with aims to build positive relationship among students, promote a sense of care and responsibility for nature and the environment and introduce the Mae Fah Luang Botanical Garden to all new students

     Over 3,500 first-year students participated in this activity to plant 4,200 trees of 11 species including Afzelia xylocarpa (Kurz) Craib, Bombax ceiba Linn., Dipterocarpus alatus Roxb., Erythrina stricta Roxb., Gardenia sootepensis Hutch., Hopea odorata Roxb., Markhamia stipulata var. stipulate, Nephelium hypoleucum Kurz., Shorea roxburghii G.Don, Tectona grandis Linn.f., and Terminalia bellirica (Gaertn.) Roxb. at Mae Fah Luang Botanical Garden.

     In the opening ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr.Chayapron Wattanasiri, President of Mae Fah Luang University stated that the university were unable to arrange this annual activity for two years due to the COVID-19 situation. So, she would like to congratulate new students of academic year 2022 or the 24th batch of lamduan of Mae Fah Luang University for being able to participate in this activity. Doi’s Trail activity is the university’s meaningful activity as it not only provides opportunity for seniors to organise activity for their juniors but also complies with the philosophy of Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra to restore the forest and develop people.

     During the 24 years of establishment, the university has set a policy of engaging students in a reforestation project on several occasions in order to improve the quality of human life, and rebuild natural habitat. This is to say, nearly every tree in the university was planted by MFU students. Moreover, the university was established Mae Fah Luang Botanical Garden to become a centre of natural learning with over 1,000 plant species from Thailand and aboard in its collection. Furthermore, the garden has displayed a wide range of plants in different subordinate gardens for students and the general public to study and enjoy beautiful nature.
