MFU Ranked 1st in Thailand for Life Sciences Subject

     Mae Fah Luang University was ranked first in Thailand for Life Sciences Subject in THE World University Rankings 2023. Out of 1,017 universities worldwide that are leading across the following disciplines: agriculture and forestry, biological sciences, veterinary science and sport science (14 of which were Thai higher education institutions), Mae Fah Luang University was ranked in the 201-250 band in the latest THE 2023 World University Rankings by subject, released on 25 October 2022. MFU performed the strongest in citations at 92.3 and international outlook at 67.3.

     Nowadays, MFU offers programmes in Life Science subject in the School of Science, the School of Agro-Industry, the School of Cosmetic Science, the School of Health Science. Moreover, there are Life Science research centers such as Tea and Coffee Institute of Mae Fah Luang University and the Center of Excellence in Fungal Research (CEFR).

     MFU will make all the necessary effort to maintain its national academic leadership status and to make our institution a world class university that serves society with high-quality research, teaching and internationalized activities in Life Science subject.

     The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023 by subject’ methodology employs the same range of 13 performance indicators used in the overall World University Rankings 2023. But, the overall methodology is carefully recalibrated for each subject, with the weightings changed to suit the individual fields. The weightings for the life sciences ranking are: Teaching (the learning environment) 27.5 %; Research (volume, income and reputation) 27.5%; Citations (research influence) 35%; International outlook (staff, students and research) 7.5%; and Industry income (innovation) 2.5%.  

     Two criteria determine eligibility for the THE Life science subject rankings are a publication threshold by discipline and an academic staff threshold by discipline. The university is required to have published a minimum of 500 relevant publications over the five years as well as have at least 5 per cent of its academic staff working in the life sciences discipline in order to include it in the subject table.
