MFU Ranked in the 401-600 Tier in the World and Ranked Joint 10th in Thailand in the latest THE Impact Rankings 2023

     Mae Fah Luang University was ranked in the 401-600 tier in the world and ranked joint 10th in Thailand for the overall score out of 1,591 universities across 112 countries/regions (65 of which were Thai universities) in the latest THE Impact Rankings 2023, released on 1 June 2023. 

     The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings are a global measurement for assessing universities’ performance in advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) using calibrated indicators to provide comprehensive and balanced comparisons across four broad areas: research, teaching, outreach and stewardship.

     For THE Impact Rankings 2023, Mae Fah Luang University submitted data on four SDGs including:
•    SDG 3 Good Health and Wellbeing (MFU was ranked joint 10th in Thailand and ranked in the 401-600 group out of 1,218 institutions); 
•    SDG 5 Gender Equality (MFU was ranked 2nd in Thailand and ranked 22nd out of 1,081 institutions);
•    SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities (MFU was ranked joint 5th in Thailand and ranked in the 101-200 group out of 860 institutions); and 
•    SDG 17 Partnerships for the Goals (MFU was ranked joint 13th in Thailand and ranked in the 301-400 group out of 1,625 institutions)

     The University has received high scores in each aspect based on as following outstanding works:
1. SDG 3 Good Health and Well-being measures universities’ research on key diseases and conditions, support for healthcare professions, and the health of students and staff. 
- MFU offers 21 study programmes in the fields of public health and health science. 
- Doctor of Medicine Programme has been recognized by the World Federation of Medical Education. 
- MFU has worked with several organisations in Thailand and abroad for public health 
- MFU offers a holistic care at MFU Wellness Center, provides the COVID-19 vaccination and treatment for COVID-19 patients at Medical Center Hospital as well as provides mobile medial and mobile dental units to give medical and dental services to people living in remote and rural areas.

2. SDG 5 Gender Equality measures universities’ research on the study of gender equality, their policies on gender equality and their commitment to recruiting and promoting women.
- In the academic year 2021, the total number of female graduates was 25,560 (2002-2021). 
- Most of MFU executive team members, lecturers and staff members are female.
- MFU has implemented gender equality policies such as student uniform, welfare and leave rights.

3. SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities measures universities’ research on sustainability, their role as custodians of arts and heritage and their internal approaches to sustainability.
- MFU follows the aspiration of Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra to restore forests and develop people by transforming a once degraded forest into a “University in the Park” and botanical garden with high biodiversity.
- MFU offers dormitories and other facilities for staff members, students and the general public such as canteens, library, hospital, sport complex and Mekong Basin Civilization Museum.
- MFU has worked with organisations in Chiang Rai province to drive economic growth and social development of Chiang Rai via research projects, academic services and various activities.

4. SDG 17 Partnerships for the Goals looks at the broader ways in which universities support the SDGs through collaboration with other countries, promotion of best practices and publication of data.
- MFU has the Center of Excellence in Fungal Research which is the global hub for Mycology with research collaboration and a high number of citations from institutions around the world.
- MFU hosted both national and international conferences as platforms for researchers and academics to exchange knowledge and build networks such as BSID 2022, IEA-SEA & ICPH 2022 and PACCON 2023.
- MFU has worked with organisations in Thailand and abroad such as the Land Development Department, the Office of the National Water Resources, UN, WHO, WWF, and UNEP to solve environmental issues and promote sustainable development.

     These rankings reflect MFU’s strong commitment to achieve a better and more sustainable future.
