On 14 December 2023, MFU executives led by Prof. Dr. Sujitra Wongkasemjit, Vice President of Mae Fah Luang University warmly welcomed the delegation of Xiamen University (XMU), China led by Mr. Sun Li, Member of the Xiamen University Council at the reception room, Vanchai Sirichana Building (AD1), Mae Fah Luang University. The purpose of this visit was to strengthen relationships and deepen existing collaboration between Xiamen University and Mae Fah Luang University.
MFU and XMU have a long-standing and faithful relations through the establishment of the Confucius Institute at Mae Fah Luang University. Xiamen University, as the Chinese partner university appointed by the government of the People’s Republic of China and as the important partner for the Confucius Institute of Mae Fah Luang University’s operation, has played a significant role in supporting the high-quality teaching of Chinese language, providing Chinese volunteer teachers, promoting student exchange and cultural activities with Mae Fah Luang University. The two universities have also cooperated under the University Consortium of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road (UCMSR).
As Xiamen University has been ranked as the top universities for economics and social sciences in China with high number of publications and articles, the two universities discussed collaboration possibilities for joint economic research. Moreover, MFU introduced the Office of Border Economy and Logistics Study (OBELS) and invited XMU to be a partner of OBELS for future cooperation.
In addition, the XMU delegates visited the Sirindhorn Chinese Language and Culture Center and the Confucius Institute to observe the operation and meet Chinese teachers.
