On 8 April 2024, the School of Management, Mae Fah Luang University organised the Myanmar Thingyan Day 2024 to celebrate Myanmar New Year festival at the General Sampao Chusri (E4) Building. The event featured booths showcasing Myanmar food and beverage, alongside cultural performances by Myanmar students. It attracted Myanmar, Thai and international students, lecturers, and staff. Additionally, Myanmar students in traditional costumes participated in the event.
In the opening ceremony, Dr.Piyatida Pianluprasidh, Dean of the School of Management stated that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the school has not held many events in recent years. However, they were delighted to bring back the celebration of the joyous Thingyan Festival together again, especially for Myanmar students who have traveled far from home. She added that the Thingyan Festival, Myanmar's New Year, resembles Songkran, Thailand's New Year celebration. It involves water splashing activities, washing Buddha statues with sacred water, and paying respect to parents, teachers and elders. Both countries likely share familiarity with these similar traditions.
Altogether, this event provided Myanmar students with a great opportunity to celebrate the Thingyan Festival and share their culture with friends.
