MFU Pride 2024 Promotes Understanding of Gender Diversity and Celebrates Equal Marriage

On 29 June 2024, the Global Relations Division in collaboration with the School of Law and International Student Clubs of Mae Fah Luang University organised ‘MFU Pride 2024 event’ at M for U Centre, Mae Fah Luang University.

“MFU Pride 2024” aimed to offer a unique lopportunity for participants to deepen their understanding about gender diversity and celebrate Thailand’s recent achievement as the first Southeast Asian country to legalise equal marriage, a significant step towards gender equality. The School of Law, MFU played a key role in advocating for this law by having a representative working closely with the Ad-Hoc commission. 

The event was supported by external organisations including the Bangkok Pride and Documentary Club, as well as MFU internal organisations such as the School of Law, the School of Social Innovation, the School of Integrative Medicine, Mae Fah Luang Alumni Association, the International Student Club and the Global Relations Division. 

It featured the opening remarks by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Darunee Wattanasiriwech, Vice President of Mae Fah Luang University; documentary screenings of ‘Egoist’ and ‘Little Girl,’ supported by the Documentary Club, sparking curiosity among participants; discussions with guest speakers including Nada Chaiyajit, lecturer of the School of Law; Dr.Chalongrat Charoensri, lecturer of the School of Social Innovation; and Chin Jia Wei, lecturer of the School of Integrative Medicine; dance performances from MFU Dancing and Acting Club; and Pride costume contest. 

Mae Fah Luang University, as a university that values diversity, has welcomed and encouraged everyone to express themselves. With this determination to fostering diversity, the university was topped the rankings for SDG 5 Gender Equality in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings for five consecutive years. The university will continue to champion this goal to ensure it truly pushes the bar of Gender Equality even further.
