MFU Hosts International Training Course on Cross-Border Health

On 13 August 2024, Assoc. Prof.Dr.Darunee Wattanasiriwech, Vice President of Mae Fah Luang University, presided over the opening ceremony of the Annual International Training Courses (AITC) 2024 titled "Bridging the Gap in Cross Border Health Populations". This training course was co-organised by MFU’s the Master of Public Health Programme in Border Health Management of the School of Health Science, Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), and the Neighbouring Countries Economic Development Cooperation Agency (NEDA). It took place from 13 – 31 August 2024, at Mae Fah Luang University.

The opening ceremony was also attended by Asst. Prof. Dr.Wipob Suthana, Assistant to the President and Acting Dean of the School of Health Science, Dr.Phitsanuruk Kanthawee, and his team. Participants from Bhutan, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka joined the programme.

Asst. Prof. Dr.Wipob Suthana informed the attendees that this training course focuses on building cross-border health knowledge. Participants will learn basic information about healthcare systems, analyse methods to support diverse groups, and apply the knowledge gained to develop healthcare systems in their home countries. The programme also provides an opportunity to exchange the latest information with experts and build valuable networks in the public health sector. 

AITC was initiated in 1991 as a framework for providing short-term training courses. It focuses on topics of expertise under six themes: Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP), Public Health, Climate Change and Environmental Issues, Agriculture and Food Security, Bio-Circular-Green Economy Model and Others Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It offers participants not only a training experience but also a platform for exchanging ideas and establishing professional networks with participants from across the world.

This training course marks an important step for Mae Fah Luang University in promoting international public health cooperation and developing cross-border health knowledge, which will contribute to improving the quality of life for people in the region.
