On 28 April – 1 May 2025, a delegation from Mae Fah Luang University (MFU), led by Prof. Dr. Vanchai Sirichana, Chairman of Mae Fah Luang University Council, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Matchima Naradisorn, President, along with members of the University Council, Vice Presidents, and Deans from the School of Medicine, School of Integrative Medicine, and School of Sinology, visited Kunming City, Yunnan Province, China.
The objective of this visit was to strengthen relationships and further academic, medical, and public health cooperation with universities in Yunnan including Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST), Kunming Medical University (KMU), Yunnan University (YNU), and Yunnan Normal University (YNNU).
The delegation met with Prof. Tang Jiahua, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of University Council at Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST), and held discussions with executives from the Faculty of Life Sciences and Technology, the School of International Education, and the Faculty of China-Laos Engineering and Technology. The discussions focused on collaborative research opportunities, mechanisms for student and staff exchanges, and joint training initiatives. The MFU delegation also visited several KUST units, including the Faculty of Life Sciences and Technology, the Institute of Primate Translational Medicine, the School of Medicine, and the university’s history museum.
Additionally, the delegation visited the First People’s Hospital of Yunnan Province, a leading affiliated hospital of KUST. The hospital plays a key role as a national research center across various specialties such as respiratory diseases, spinal disorders, obstetrics and gynecology, oncology, cardiology, and gastroenterology. The President of the hospital and the administrative team provided a warm welcome and shared in-depth insights into hospital management, medical service systems, education, and medical research operations. The delegation also toured the Medical Simulation Center, medical student training laboratories, and the Traditional Chinese Medicine Department, gaining an understanding of the integrated healthcare model, which could serve as a framework for developing a curriculum that combines modern and traditional medicine at Mae Fah Luang University in the future.
During the visit to China, Asst. Prof. Dr. Matchima Naradisorn, MFU President, also signed renewed Memorandum of Understanding for academic cooperation with Chinese universities, including Yunnan University, Yunnan Normal University, and Kunming Medical University. These agreements aim to continue academic collaborations in terms of student exchanges, collaborative research, and joint activities such as seminars and the Thai-Chinese Young Ambassador Camp, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Thailand–China diplomatic relations.
This visit marks another significant step in enhancing MFU’s international collaboration network, paving the way for sustainable development in education, research, and health knowledge exchange on a global scale.
