On 13 – 14 May 2025, the Global Relations Division organised the Cultural Exchange Visit for a delegation from Hong Kong STEM Nurture Association, led by Mr. Carl Chan, President of Hong Kong STEM Nurture Association. The delegates included students from five institutions, namely the Education University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education.

The activities consisted of a campus tour, a workshop on painting Thai patterns on canvas bags arranged by the Mekong Basin Civilization Museum, as well as information sessions on MFU’s graduate programmes, exchange programmes, and short courses.

Additionally, the delegation had a chance to explore Thai culture and way of life at Black House Museum, Choui Fong Tea Plantation, Doi Tung, Blue Temple, and Chiang Rai Night Bazaar in Chiang Rai province. Throughout the campus tour, workshop activities, and field trips in Chiang Rai Province, the university assigned five student buddies from the International Student Club to join the programme. Their role was to warmly welcome the visitors as hosts, share their experiences of studying and living at the university and in Thailand, and foster international student networking through shared activities. Two of the student buddies shared their experience as follows:

Ms. Lin Latt Thiri (Binky), a student from the School of Management: Welcoming Hong Kong group as a buddy was such a great opportunity for me. I could learn about the culture of Hong Kong people. We discussed Hong Kong culture, movies, songs, and many other interesting topics. They were also interested in Thai and Myanmar culture, and we had a good discussion. We had a wonderful moment throughout the whole trip.

Mr. Sai Hut Hut (Panya), a student from the School of Health Science and also vice president of the International Student Club: Being a buddy for the Hong Kong group was a very fun and meaningful experience. Even though it was only for two days, we had a great time together. We got to know many new and knowledgeable friends, and we also had the chance to share our own experiences and ideas with them. It was short, but the memories we made will stay with me for a long time. I’m really glad I was part of it.
