On 7 November 2025, Mae Fah Luang University (MFU), through the French–Upper Mekong Subregion Academic Cooperation Centre, organised the “Women Empowerment” activity for 20 female students and staff members of MFU at the M-Square Building.

The workshop aimed to provide participants with essential knowledge and self-defense skills, equipping them with proper techniques and methods from professional self-defense experts that can be applied in real-life situations.

The event, opened by Ms. Flavie Lepoutre, Acting-Director of the French–Upper Mekong Subregion Academic Cooperation Centre, brought together two professional trainers from BSPT Security Training, who specialise in Bodyguard and Close Protection training.

The Self-Defense for Women training emphasised several key topics, including:
•    Understanding the concept of self-defense from psychological perspectives such as fear and stress management;
•    Legal aspects of self-defense;
•    Mental resilience and emotional control;
•    Developing automatic response mechanisms; and
•    Practical defensive techniques in situations such as wrist grabs, neck or collar holds, hair pulling, and attacks from behind.

Participants also learned how to identify everyday objects that can be used for self-protection, critical body points for awareness and response, and threat anticipation skills. The session concluded with hands-on practice through simulated scenarios, focusing on the importance of maintaining calm, controlling breathing, assessing situations, and determining immediate actions — whether to breathe, shout, escape, or respond appropriately. The instructors emphasised that the essence of self-defense lies not in fighting to win, but in avoiding danger and escaping risky situations safely.
