On 24 January 2026, the International Student Club (ISC), with support from the Global Relations Division of Mae Fah Luang University, successfully organised the Chiang Rai Discovery Tour
for new international students enrolling in the second semester of the academic year 2025.

The tour was designed to enhance students’ understanding of Thai society, promote intercultural exchange, and create meaningful memories at the begining of their MFU journey. Throughout the one-day trip, participants explored Chiang Rai’s local culture and natural beauty, visited Choui Fong Tea Plantation to learn about tea production, discovered the Doi Tung Development Project, including the Royal Villa and Mae Fah Luang Garden, and experienced the Sky Walk at Phra That Doi Wao, Mae Sai, a culturally rich border area close to Myanmar.

Students were divided into six groups and given a creative mission inspired by Doi Tung’s theme, “The Color of Yours.” Each group identified its own color and presented it by capturing photos together in their assigned color, turning teamwork, creativity, and friendship into unforgettable moments. The smiles, laughter, and active engagement throughout the day truly reflected the spirit of global citizenship and cultural appreciation.

Ms. Zin Me Me Kyaw, President of the International Student Club, who led the activity with her team, shared:
“ I am Zin Me Me Kyaw, a second-year student from the Public Health Major, the School of Health Science, and the President of the International Student Club 2025.  I would like to share that organising the Chiang Rai Discovery Tour was not the effort of one person, but a collective commitment from the ISC 2025 batch team members. Everyone supported one another, shared their spare time, and contributed ideas for activities and games. Each member put genuine effort into every part of the event.

When we were given the opportunity to organise this tour, our first priority was the international students. We carefully considered what activities and games would help them enjoy the trip while also learning about Thai society and culture. Although the tour lasted only one day, we believed that the friendships built should last much longer. Our goal was to design activities that would strongly build connections among participants and help them feel that the International Student Club is a home for every international student.

We also listened carefully to feedback from previous years and worked to improve this year’s tour. The journey included visits to Choui Fong Tea Plantation, the Doi Tung Development Project, and our final destination, Phra That Doi Wao, a culturally rich border area between Thailand and Myanmar. This location provided a valuable learning opportunity, as Mae Fah Luang University is home to students from diverse backgrounds, including Myanmar, the Philippines, Indonesia, China, Laos, and many others. At Doi Wao, students were able to engage in intercultural exchange, with Myanmar students sharing insights about their culture while Thai students explained local traditions and perspectives.

Throughout the trip, students were divided into six teams, which helped strengthen teamwork and communication skills. Our student staff demonstrated strong responsibility and leadership, explaining interesting facts about each location to upon arrival. Games were organised at each destination with clear purposes to enhance teamwork, leadership, communication skills, and a volunteering mindset, while encouraging students to become familiar with one another.

Managing a total of 70 participants throughout the journey was not easy, but the tour concluded with very positive feedback from the students, which made all the effort worthwhile. I would like to sincerely thank my ISC 2025 batch team members and fellow student staff. Without their dedication and teamwork, this event would not have run smoothly. I would also like to express my gratitude to the Global Relations Division for giving us this opportunity. We hope that the ISC 2025 batch will continue to organize meaningful and impactful activities in the future.”

The Chiang Rai Discovery Tour 2026 reflects Mae Fah Luang University’s commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment, promoting intercultural understanding, and supporting international students as global citizens from their very first steps at MFU.
