Mae Fah Luang University was ranked in the top three Thailand’s top-ranked institution in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) Emerging Economies University Rankings 2020, released on 18 February 2020.
This year is the first time for Mae Fah Luang University to participate in this ranking. Out of 533 universities from 47 countries or regions (16 of which were Thai higher education institutions), Mae Fah Luang University was ranked 145th in the world and ranked 3rd in Thailand after Mahidol University (79th) and Chulalongkorn University (144th).
MFU scored highly in the research citation and international outlook categories. The rankings use the same 13 performance indicators as the THE World University Rankings to judge institutions on
Teaching (the learning environment) 30%;
Research (volume, income and reputation) 30%;
Citations (research influence) 20%;
International outlook (staff, students and research) 10%; and
Industry Income (knowledge transfer) 10%.
However, the performance indicators are carefully recalibrated to reflect the development priorities of universities in emerging economies (countries classified by the London Stock Exchange’s FTSE Group as “advanced emerging”, “secondary emerging” or “frontier.”)
Altohether, MFU will make all the necessary effort to maintain its national academic leadership status and to make our institution a world class university that serves society with high-quality research, teaching and internationalized activities.
