MFU-MUN with the UN: Our Future in Our Hand

     On 30 November 2020, the United Nations Thailand in collaboration with MFU Model United Nations (MUN) student’s organization, the School of Social Innovation and the Global Relations Division held the “MFU-MUN with the UN: Our Future in Our Hand” activity at Mae Fah Luang University for promoting the young generation’s participation in the global conversation.

     The year 2020 marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.The UN launched the world’s largest global conversation on ‘the future we want’ known as UN75 inviting people everywhere to imagine the future they want and contribute ideas on how to build a better and more sustainable world for all. 

     President of Model United Nations (MUN), Mr. Nawabzada Mir Jamal Khan Raisani said that in this global dialogue, the MUN delegates proposed six global priority issues including 1. The Impacts of Digital Technologies; 2. A New Era of Conflict and Violence; 3. Inequality – Bridging the Divide; 4. The Climate Crisis – A Race We Can Win; 5. Investing in Health for an Equitable Future; and 6. Women and Girls – Closing the Gender Gap.

     MFU Vice President, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nantana Gajaseni stated in the opening ceremony that Mae Fah Luang University strongly believes that cooperation is an effective mechanism for the world to reach a sustainable future. Therefore, MFU has set the priority and made it responsibility to encourage students to build a strong cooperation and realise that they are global citizens who should aware of the wider world and has a sense of their own role as a world citizen.

   Additionally, there was a meeting to discuss cooperation possibilities between the School of Social Innovation and the United Nations Thailand. With the acknowledgment of the impressive teamwork of students and the benefits of MUN activities, the UN Thailand see a high possibility to support annual event for MUN MFU.Moreover, the UN Thailand’s representative agreed to support a visiting lecturer for the Subject "International Law and International Organizations", accept students from the School of Social Innovation to visit UN Office in Bangkok or UN stations in Thailand as well as explore possibilities to conduct a joint research for academic purposes.

     Altogether, this MFU-MUN with the UN: Our Future in Our Hand was the great opportunity for MFU students as the global citizens to voice their views on the world’s priorities and solutions for global issues reflecting the future they want in this next crucial year.
