MFU Ranked 1st in Thailand in THE Young University Rankings 2021

     Mae Fah Luang University retains top spot for the 2nd consecutive year in the Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings 2021, released on 23 June 2021. This ranking listed the world’s best universities that are 50 years old or younger. Out of 475 universities from 68 territories (3 of which were Thai higher education institutions), Mae Fah Luang University was ranked 1st in Thailand, 8th in ASEAN and in the 201-250 band of the world. MFU scored highly in the citations and international outlook categories which were 60.4 (ranked 4th in ASEAN) and 52.7 (ranked 7th in ASEAN) respectively. 

     The President of Mae Fah Luang University, Assoc. Prof. Dr.Chayaporn Wattanasiri said, “The driving force for high citation score is the continuous growth of production in research and innovation activities. According to the MFU Together identity, all research sections such as the Centre of Excellence in Fungal Research, research groups in the fields of health science, science, materials science and culture have made every effort to reach the highest score in Thailand. As the President of Mae Fah Luang University, I would like to express sincere appreciation to all lecturers, students, researchers and all supporting divisions for increasing the number of publications at the international level within 23 years.”  

     The THE Young University Rankings 2021 are based on the same metrics as THE World University Rankings to reflect young universities’ missions, with less emphasis on reputational surveys and more on factors such as research productivity, staff-student ratios, institutional income and doctoral education. The performance indicators are grouped into five areas: Teaching 30% (the learning environment); Research 30% (volume, income and reputation); Citations 30% (research influence); International outlook 7.5% (staff, students and research); and Industry Income 2.5% (knowledge transfer).
