MFU Reduces Tuition Fees to Support Students During COVID-19 Pandemic

    On 27 July 2021, the Cabinet approved the proposal of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation to reduce tuition fees for all university and school students for the first semester, academic year 2021.

     As the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has caused economic impact on people in wide area, Mae Fah Luang University deems it necessary to reduce the tuition fees for students at all levels of study of the first semester, academic year 2021 according to the Cabinet resolution. The reduction will be implemented in three steps: a 50 percent reduction for the first 50,000 baht; a 30 percent reduction for the 50,001 - 100,000 baht; and a 10 percent reduction for over 100,000 baht. 

     Assoc. Prof. Dr.Chayaporn Wattanasiri, the President of Mae Fah Luang University revealed that the reduction of tuition fee for Thai students is in the form of co-payment between the government and the university in the ratio of 60 to 40. For international students, the reduction of tuition fee is only supported by Mae Fah Luang University in which the university will subsidise the reduction up to 20 percent of the tuition fees.

     Moreover, MFU has provided several support measures to help relieve students' financial burden affected by the COVID-19 since academic year 2020 for example providing free internet sim cards for all students, providing 600 scholarships worth over 10 million baht per academic year, extending tuition fee payment, hiring students to work and charging dormitory fees according to the length of stay. For new students, MFU has also reduced the Intensive English Course fee and the Intensive Chinese Course fee by 50%. MFU has not charge for the How to Live and Learn on Campus 2021 fee as well.
