Pulp Making from Rice Straw Workshop for Chiang Rai People

     On 18 - 25 October 2021, the Center of Innovative Materials for Sustainability (iMats), the School of Science led by Asst. Prof. Dr.Nattakan Soykeabkaew and students from the Materials Engineering programme held the workshop to demonstrate and teach how to make pulp from rice straw with less use of chemicals for people in Khun Tan, Chiang Khong and Thoeng district of Chiang Rai province. 

     The workshop was held with an aim to develop awareness about efficient processes for turning agricultural waste into value-added products. Additionally, after completing the workshop, the iMats offered all materials and equipment for pulp making to the communities in order to create a learning unit and promote a continuous pulp production.

     This workshop is an activity under "the Waste to Wealth: Tackling the agricultural wastes in Thailand to make fully recyclable packaging" project co-funded by the British Council and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (Newton Fund Institutional Links 2021).
