Being Ready to Be ASEAN Young Leaders: MFU Students Join the Temasek Foundation-NUS Leadership Enrichment and Regional Networking Young Asian Leaders Initiative (TF-NUS LEaRN YALI)

On 6 September – 16 November 2021, Mae Fah Luang University students received the 550 SGD scholarship for participating in the Temasek Foundation-NUS Leadership Enrichment and Regional Networking Young Asian Leaders Initiative (TF-NUS LEaRN YALI).

This two-month programme was a pilot online programme organised by Temasek Foundation (TF) and the Global Relations Office, National University of Singapore (NUS) aiming to help students gain a deeper understanding of ASEAN and build networks with their peers from the region. The programme also focused on teaching participants on how to build resilience as well as the necessary skills and mindsets related to finding and securing employment in the new normal era.

Over two months, 120 undergraduates from 18 ASEAN universities from Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam engaged in weekly online sessions to learn how to build holistic resilience, work on group projects, organise panel sessions and interact with local and international speakers. In particular, MFU students who participated in the TF-NUS LEaRN YALI included Ms. Sudarat Namsai, a second-year student from the School of Liberal Arts; and Ms. Aswanee Uma, a fourth-year student from the School of Law.

After completing the programme, Ms. Sudarat Namsai expressed that “the YALI programme taught me about knowing my potential and knowing what kind of leader I am, and I also appreciate those people who acted as a team leader when I did not during the programme as I could see how they led the team and I could learn from them. Joining the YALI programme provided me not only knowledge but I could also make new friends.” Ms. Aswanee Uma also shared that “I gained a lot of experience, new friends from ASEAN, learned about ASEAN and myself including problem-solving skills.”
