On 4 February 2022, the Global Relations Division and the International Student Club jointly held the “How to study and learn effectively” activity via zoom programme. This activity brought together five Thai and International students to share their ideas and helpful tips for effective studying and learning.
During the discussion, speakers suggested effective study strategies including
1. Time management: never do anything at the last minute. Always make sure to write things down on your calendar, in order to remember.
2. Growth mindset: be flexible and accept change. If you have a fixed mindset it will be more difficult for you to adapt to different situations. With a growth mindset, whatever you learned can be developed, with hard work of course. A lot of people who have a fixed mindset will not put in the same efforts and hard work, thinking that their talents are innate.
3. Communication issues: make yourself seen and available. If you’re an international student, do more. Make sure the teacher knows you’re there, especially if you do not understand what is being discussed in class.
4. Group work: break the barrier. Everyone is scared to do the first step. It’s intimidating when you have to talk in another language than your own. But everyone is in the same situation here. And it is okay to make mistakes, we’re here to learn. Be patient. If you are starting to lose patience, put yourselves in your teammates’ shoes. They might want to talk to you but are scared to do so.
5. Setting reachable goals: don’t be too hard on yourself. Set feasible objectives and do your best to achieve them. Once you’ve reached them, you can always set other and higher goals. Step by step, one day at a time.
6. Having a positive attitude towards whatever task you are undertaking will benefit you.
Altogether, the activity provided a constructive opportunity for students from different countries and fields of study to share and exchange their study tips which will help other students adapt and apply to their studying and learning plan.
