On 19 – 20 September 2022, Mae Fah Luang University led by the Sirindhorn Chinese Language and Culture Centre and the School of Sinology cooperated with Chiang Mai University and University of Phayao to organise “the 1st National Conference on Chinese Studies: Thai-Chinese Strategic Partnership Relations of the Modern Era” at Pradoodaeng conference room, MFU.
This conference was held on the occasion of celebration of the 24th anniversary of Mae Fah Luang University and the 8th anniversary of the School of Sinology to disseminate and share academic knowledge related to Chinese studies. It was expected to not only widen perspectives and opinions on Chinese studies but also raise awareness of the importance of studying various aspects of China, including factors and potential impacts on Thailand.
In the opening ceremony, there were a report speech given by Dr.Teeraparp Preedepoch, Dean of the School of Sinology followed by an opening speech by Adj. Prof. Dr.Vanchai Sirichana, Chairman of Mae Fah Luang University Council and a congratulatory speech by Ms. Feng Junying, Counselor of Education of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China to the Kingdom of Thailand.
Furthermore, there were special speeches regarding direction and policy for strategic cooperation between Thailand and China presented by Assoc. Prof. Pokin Polakul, President of Thai-Chinese Culture and Economy Association; Chinese studies in our era presented by Assoc. Prof. Vorasakdi Mahatdhanobol, former Director of Chinese Studies Center at Chulalongkorn University; and directions for Chinese language learning and teaching presented by Dr.Atitaya Panya, President of Human Capital Excellence Management Center, Office of the Basic Education Commission.
Altogether, the conference provided a valuable opportunity for academics and experts to present their research works and share academic knowledge related to Chinese studies that could be used as guidelines on solving problems as well as promoting a better understanding of the Thai and Chinese people.
