The 1st NSU-Net Presidents’ Forum: Sustainable Networking for a Better Future Together

     On 13 January 2023, Mae Fah Luang University organised the 1st NSU-Net Presidents’ Forum under a theme of “Sustainable Networking for a Better Future Together” and the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) on the North-South University Network (NSU Net) at Kham Mok Luang Room, M-square Building, Mae Fah Luang University.

     The 1st NSU-Net Presidents’ Forum brought together over 60 presidents and vice presidents responsible for academic and global affairs from the member universities to exchange their views and explore collaborations through three different sessions. The Presidents session focused mainly on the directions of cooperation, human resource development and management, young leadership development, and organisation management in digital era. Additionally, the vice presidents responsible for academic affairs session highlighted academic cooperation between member universities in terms of global citizen education, cross-registration, credit bank, credit transfer, and collaborative online international learning (COIL) programme. Furthermore, the vice presidents responsible for affairs session concentrated on cross-registration under exchange programme, the NSU’s international relations officers (IRO) network, best practice sharing, virtual mobility, and a cost-share for visiting scholar programme. 

     Also, there was the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) on the North-South University Network (NSU Net) between the presidents of member universities. The North-South University Network (NSU Net) was initiated by Mae Fah Luang University (MFU) and Prince of Songkla University (PSU) with the purposes of strengthening relationships between the North-South university leaders, promoting knowledge exchange and experience sharing in higher education, applying strengths and expertise of members to support the advancement of academic excellence, as well as boosting academic collaboration and cooperation on research and innovation to move member universities towards becoming globally competitive and develop internationally recognised together.

     Now, the NSU Net consists of 17 universities including 7 universities located in the Northern namely Chiang Mai University, Chiang Rai Rajabhat University, Mae Fah Laung University, Maejo University, Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna, University of Phayao as well as 11 universities located in the Southern Thailand namely Fatoni University, Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University, Phuket Rajabhat University, Prince of Songkla University, Princess of Naradhiwas University, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, Songkhla Rajabhat University, Suratthani Rajabhat University, Thaksin University, Walailak University, Yala Rajabhat University. Moreover, MFU and PSU are the main coordinators of this network.

     In addition, there were booths exhibiting products originating from research outcomes of Mae Fah Luang University led by Tea and Coffee Institute, Medicinal Plant Innovation Center, School of Cosmetic Science and booths of Prince of Songkla University led by Research and Development Office.

     Altogether, this Presidents’ Forum was a great success, displaying the efforts of the participating universities in establishing active and effective alliances in research, innovation and education through this forum.
