A Study Visit from the School of Nursing & Midwifery, Deakin University, Australia

     On 21 – 28 January 2023, the School of Nursing, Mae Fah Luang University and the School of Nursing & Midwifery, Deakin University, Australia held the training programme “Nursing and Health in Thailand: Broadening Perspectives of Australian and Global Health”. This programme aimed to provide an opportunity for Deakin University students to learn Thailand’s nursing education, applied Thai traditional medicine, and health promotion in cross-border areas. 

     There were 24 participants from the School of Nursing & Midwifery, Deakin University including students and lecturers led by Associate Professor Debra Caroline Kerr, Course Director. During the programme, there were 22 MFU Nursing students who facilitated and took care of the students from Deakin University as the mentors. Moreover, participants visited the School of Nursing, Institute of Thai-Chinese Traditional Medicine Hospital, MFU Hospital, MFU Medical Centre Hospital, Mae Sai Hospital, and Maekaotom Tambon Health Promotion Hospital to observe and learn healthcare system in local hospitals. Furthermore, they got a chance to explore and immerge themselves in Thai culture by visiting local tourist attractions in Chinag Rai such as White Temple, Huay Pla Kang Temple, Doi Chang and Golden Triangle. 

     Asst. Prof. Dr.Chompunut Sopajaree, Dean of the School of Nursing stated that this programme helped promote academic collaboration in nursing education, applied Thai traditional medicine, and health promotion in cross-border areas between the School of Nursing, Mae Fah Luang University and the School of Nursing & Midwifery, Deakin University. All in all, this programme was a valuable chance for students from both Deakin University and Mae Fah Luang University to exchange professional knowledge and culture as well as develop a student network.
