On 13 March 2023, MFU executives led by Asst. Prof. Dr.Chutamat Niwat, Assistant to the President; and Dr.Teeraparp Predeepoch, Dean of the School of Sinology warmly welcomed the delegates from Yunnan Provincial People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries led by Madame Wang Yu, Vice President of Yunnan Provincial People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries; and Madame Yang Juan, Deputy Director-General of Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Overseas Chinese Affairs and Foreign Affairs Committee of the CPPCC Yunnan Provincial Committee.
Chiang Rai province has signed the sister city agreement with Yunnan province since 2000 with an aim to promote better understanding and closer friendship between the two cities. The purposes of this visit were to deepen friendly relations between Yunnan Province and Chiang Rai Province, to promote youth exchanges between Mae Fah Luang University and students from Yunnan Province as well as to discuss further collaborative activities with Mae Fah Luang University.
During the discussion, representatives of Yunnan Province invited Mae Fah Luang University to join the Thai-Yunnan Higher Education Consortium. Yunnan Province will act as a bridge connecting Mae Fah Luang University with higher education institutions in Yunnan. Moreover, MFU is willing to encourage students to participate in activities organised by Yunnan Province as well as expand collaboration in the exchange of professors and short courses. After the meeting, the delegates from Yunnan Provincial People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries visited MFU Memorial Hall, library, the Confucius Institute and Sirindhorn Chinese Language and Culture Center.
