School of Medicine Visits Japan for Developing and Strengthening Academic Cooperation

     On 5 – 11 April 2023, Mae Fah Luang University executives and delegates from the School of Medicine visited universities in Japan for developing and strengthening academic cooperation.

     On 6 April 2023, the delegates from the School of Medicine led by Adj. Prof. Supakorn Rojananin, M.D., Dean of the School of Medicine visited Kyoto University and met Prof. Tadashi Isa, Dean of the Graduate School of Medicine and Faculty of Medicine; Prof. Akifumi Takaori, Director of University Hospital; and Prof. Motoko Yanagita, Chair of the International Exchange Committee, Graduate School of Medicine. The purpose of this visit was to discuss future collaboration in medical education and research between the Graduate School of Medicine and Faculty of Medicine, Kyoto University and the School of Medicine, Mae Fah laung University. After the meeting, MFU delegates visited Kyoto University Hospital to learn more about the Cancer Research Center, Surgery Department, health care system and IT system. 

     Furthermore, Assoc. Prof. Dr.Chayaporn Wattanasiri, President of Mae Fah Luang University, Assoc. Prof. Dr.Nantana Gajaseni, Vice President of Mae Fah Luang University and the School of Medicine’s delegation visited Kyushu University to have a meeting with Prof. Koichi Akashi, Dean of the School of Medicine as well as took a tour of International Research Center for Hydrogen Energy, Center for Organic Photonics and Electronics Research (OPERA) and library on 7 April 2023. 

     On 10 April 2023, MFU delegates visited the School of Medicine, Kumamoto University and met Dr. Ogawa Hisao, President of Kumamoto University and Prof. Tomizawa Kazuhito, Vice President of Kumamoto University for deepening cooperation. In addition, there was a signing ceremony of Agreement on Academic Exchange between Kumamoto Kenhoku Hospital and Mae Fah Luang University signed by Assoc. Prof. Dr.Chayaporn Wattanasiri, President of Mae Fah Luang University; Adj. Prof. Supakorn Rojananin, M.D., Dean of the School of Medicine; Dr.Yasuyuki Yamashita, Chief Director of Kumamoto Kenhoku Hospital; and Dr.Sadahiro Tamiya of Kumamoto Kenhoku Hospital. The agreement aims to promote the exchange of students, residents, professors, researchers, administrative and professional personnel, research materials and publications between the two institutions.

     Mae Fah Lang University and Kumamoto University have established the collaboration since 2016 and have consistently promoted the exchange of medical students. There were three medical students from Mae Fah Luang University who joined the exchange programme at Kumamoto University in 2018 and another five medical students who have come to Kumamoto Kenhoku Hospital in 2023.
