On 26 April 2023, the Global Relations Division and the Mekong Basin Civilization Museum jointly held ‘Handmade Lanna Paper Umbrella Workshop’ for 12 students from Cambodia, China, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand at the Mekong Basin Civilization Museum.

In the paper umbrella workshop, international students learned how to do paper umbrellas. Paper umbrellas are a Lanna cultural heritage and they are usually hanging around Thai temple for decoration in any festival at night and day. Moreover, there was a museum tour for students to learn more about history and culture of the countries of the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS).

All in all, the cultural activity was a meaningful way for international students to gain a deeper understanding, learn to appreciate other cultures and ideas, and interact with people from different backgrounds which helps in creating connections and developing their interpersonal skills.
