UNESCO Announces “Chiang Rai-Suphanburi” as New Creative Cities

     Mae Fah Luang University would like to congratulate Chiang Rai province for being designated a “City of Design” by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

      According to an announcement made by UNESCO on 31 October 2023, Chiang Rai province had been recognised as a "City of Design” and Suphanburi province as a "City of Music” among 55 new members of its Creative Cities Network (UCCN) for 2023.

      All 55 cities were acknowledged for their strong commitment to harnessing culture and creativity as part of their development strategies, and displaying innovative practices in human-centred urban planning. With the latest additions, the Network now counts 350 cities in more than one hundred countries, representing seven creative fields: Crafts and Folk Art, Design, Film, Gastronomy, Literature, Media Arts and Music.

      The 55 newly designated Creative Cities are invited to participate in the 2024 UCCN Annual Conference, to be held in Braga, Portugal, from 1 to 5 July 2024, under the theme of “Bringing Youth to the table for the next decade.” 

     Chiang Rai province is full of amazing things especially arts and culture, beautiful environment and others. As Mae Fah Luang University has the main missions to provide quality education, academic development and academic services to Chiang Rai people, Thailand, ASEAN and beyond, the university has determined to be a medium for coordinating various sectors in Chiang Rai especially local artists to transfer knowledge for adding value and increasing the income of the local community through a wide range of activities such as design work and product showcase, talks, exhibitions, workshops and performances.
