The main purpose of this visit was to enhance public awareness of health promotion against PM2.5 among local people.

Chiang Rai province is facing the severe PM2.5 pollution problem caused by haze and forest burnings in country and neighbouring countries. This seasonal problem runs from February to May every year and has caused health problems to people particularly persons with a weakened immune system such as older people, children, and patients with respiratory diseases.

PM2.5 exposures can reduce an average life expectancy and increases the rate of hospital admissions for cardiovascular and respiratory diseases due to long-term exposure to PM2.5 pollutions. MFU Wellness Center have recognised those health problems and placed the importance of health promotion and disease prevention at high priority. Consequently, MFU Wellness Center staff visited communities and provided information about how to effectively take care of their health to prevent severe symptoms from air pollution and how to properly wear face masks.

People in high air pollution areas are encouraged to wear N95 masks or wear two masks at once, avoid activities causing PM2.5, avoid outdoor activities, set up dust-free rooms by placing an air purifier and closing every door and window, and check out the real-time PM 2.5 level though Air4Thai application. In addition, people are required to be aware of abnormal signs and symptoms. If any symptoms such as coughing, chest tightness, dizziness and nausea present, they should seek medical attention immediately.
