On 1 May 2024, Times Higher Education (THE) released the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2024 at the Asia Universities Summit 2024 held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Out of 739 universities from 31 territories, Mae Fah Luang University was ranked joint 5th in Thailand, ranked joint 26th in ASEAN and landed in 401-500 tier in Asia with an overall score of 28.1 – 31.4. MFU scored exceptionally high in the international outlook category, achieving the highest score in Thailand at 54.0.

The 2024 edition of the rankings introduces significant updates to the original methodology, similar to the changes made to the World University Rankings methodology last year. The 18 performance indicators are grouped into five areas: Teaching 24.5% (the learning environment); Research Environment 28% (volume, income and reputation); Research Quality 30% (citation impact, research strength, research excellence and research influence); International outlook 7.5% (staff, students and research); and Industry 10% (income and patents).

The key changes involve the weight of certain indicators. More emphasis is placed on the Industry indicator (increased from 4% to 10%), while the weights of Teaching and Research Reputation indicator and Citation Impact indicator have been reduced (from 33% to 25% and from 15% to 7.5%, respectively). New indicators have also been added, including research strength, research excellence, research influence, and patents.

To fulfill its vision of becoming a leading university in ASEAN with international recognition striving for well-being and sustainable future, MFU remains dedicated to providing high-quality teaching, knowledge-transfer activities and an international learning environment for people in Thailand, Asia, and around the world.
