On 29 July 2024, Mae Fah Luang University led by the Student Development Affairs Division organized the opening ceremony for the How to Live and Learn on Campus 2024 (HLLC 2024) at the Queen Sirikit 72nd Jubilee Sport Arena (Indoor Stadium). The event welcomed over 4,200 new undergraduate students from 14 schools of academic year 2024 or the 26th batch of lamduan of Mae Fah Luang University.

Adj. Prof. Dr. Vanchai Sirichana, Chairman of the University Council and Founding President, and Asst. Prof. Dr.Matchima Naradisorn, President of Mae Fah Luang University, joined executives, lecturers, staff, and senior students in extending a warm welcome to the incoming students

The opening ceremony featured performances by the MFU Band, the School of Sinology’s cheerleading team, the Dancing and Acting Club, and the Drummajor of Mae Fah Luang University. Students also had the opportunity to interact with the university leaders during a ‘Meet the President’ session.

After the opening ceremony, an activity titled 'Following the Footsteps of the Royal Aspiration' introduced new students to the university's history and the meaning behind the name 'Mae Fah Luang'. This name is derived from the royal title of Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra, the Princess Mother of the late His Majesty King Ananda Mahidol (Rama VIII) and His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX). Renowned for her dedication to improving the lives of Thai people, especially those in Chiang Rai province typically arriving by helicopter, she was affectionately called 'Mae Fah Luang' - the Royal Mother from the Sky. Established in response to the wishes of Chiang Rai residents, the university was granted the royal name to serve as a tribute to Her Royal Highness. During the activity, students folded Lamduan flowers from mulberry paper, the university's symbol, which will be donated to a charitable cause.

MFU annually organises the How to Live and Learn on Campus programme for all first-year students to help them adjust to university life, get to know their lecturers, understand their study plans and connect with senior students before the semester begins. HLLC 2024 took place from 29 July to 3 August 2024. The event was divided into two main parts: ‘How to Live’, focusing on campus life and social integration, and ‘How to Learn’, emphasizing academic and support services.
