On 19 April 2025, Asst. Prof. Dr. Matchima Naradisorn, President of Mae Fah Luang University, delivered a welcoming speech at the opening ceremony of the online Thai Language Short Course for Chinese Foreign Affairs Officers.

The course is organised by the Thai Language and Culture for Foreigners Programme, the School of Liberal Arts, in collaboration with the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Kunming. It aims to enhance Thai language proficiency and deepen cultural understanding among Chinese officials engaged in international relations.

Conducted every Saturday from 19 April to 17 May 2025, the programme spans five sessions, taught by experienced lecturers from the School of Liberal Arts. A total of 50 participants from various organisations have enrolled. Notably, the course also commemorates the 50th anniversary of Thailand–China diplomatic relations and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Kunming.

During the opening ceremony, Ms. Sirawadee Ngamwisedchaikul, Deputy Consul-General, on behalf of the Consul-General, extended a warm welcome and offered words of encouragement to the participants. She highlighted that the course aligns with the Thailand–Yunnan cooperation framework, previously discussed during a meeting at MFU, and represents a key step in strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries.

The Thai language serves as a crucial tool for communication both domestically and internationally, especially for Chinese foreign affairs officers involved in coordinating between Thailand and China. Proficiency in Thai promotes mutual understanding, particularly in areas such as trade, tourism, and people-to-people relations, contributing to a shared future between Chinese and Thai communities. Advanced language skills enable these officers to communicate effectively, understand relevant cultural contexts, and facilitate seamless collaboration with both Thai and Chinese public and private sector organisations.

This short course is in line with Mae Fah Luang University’s mission to promote and develop high-quality human resources, academic excellence, research, and innovation, in response to societal changes and in pursuit of sustainable development.
