On 29 April 2024, the Research Administration Division of the Mae Fah Luang University Research and Innovation Institute organised the "Chemical Laboratory Safety Training Course" at Kham Mok Luang Room, M-Square Building. The training was part of the "English Training Programs" supported by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), aiming to enhance knowledge and elevate laboratory safety standards to align with international practices.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siam Popluechai, Director of the Scientific and Technological Instruments Center (STIC), who delivered the opening remarks. Mr. Karnkul Bumroongchad, Head of the Research Administration Division, presented the objectives of the programme. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siam Popluechai stated that this programme was important to advance the university’s laboratory safety standards in order to ensure that staff, researchers, and students acquire knowledge, skills, and awareness regarding laboratory safety, ensuring readiness to operate under international safety standards. It was also part of efforts to drive Mae Fah Luang University towards a national model for chemical laboratory safety, aligning with the university’s policy in enhancing research quality and science education according to international standards.
The training covered key topics delivered by distinguished speakers, including: Safety Management System Administration and Chemical Management System by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kowit Nambunmee from the School of Health Science; Information and Document Management by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siam Popluechai from STIC; Hazard Prevention and Mitigation Systems and Basic Safety Education in the Laboratory by Asst. Prof. Dr. Kanchana Watla-iad from the School of Science; as well as Waste Management System and Laboratory Physical Characteristics, Equipment, and Tools by Dr. Prachak Inkaew from the School of Science.
Additionally, there were workshop sessions on Using the ESPReL-Checklist Inspection System and Learning through the ESPReL E-learning Platform conducted by the STIC team including Mr. Nawin Thornsathitkul, Mr. Tawatchai Saikown, Ms. Darunee Kwagkwai, and Ms. Athittaya Wongtrakunkaeo, to enhance participants’ practical skills.
