Celebrating 50 Years of Thai-China Ties: MFU and Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Kick Off Student Exchange in Integrative Medicine

On 4 June 2025, the School of Integrative Medicine, Mae Fah Luang University, held an opening ceremony and orientation for a student exchange programme between Mae Fah Luang University and Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine at the E4 building.

The ceremony involved representatives from Mae Fah Luang University, led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Romyen Kosaikanont, Vice President, and Dr.Sulukkana Noiprasert, Dean of the School of Integrative Medicine. Representatives from Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine joined the event online, led by Prof. Zeng Fang, Vice President, along with Prof. Zhu Hongqiu, Party Secretary, the School of Medical and Life Sciences, and Prof. Luo Xiaohong, Dean of the School of Medical and Life Sciences.

The event featured cultural performances, speeches from both Vice Presidents, and speeches from student representatives of both universities. Asst. Prof. Dr. Romyen Kosaikanont encouraged students to fully engage with peers, faculty and the community to maximise this experience for valuable international learning and long-lasting friendships. The orientation included an introduction to courses, study plans, lecturers, international student support services, a campus tour, and the matching of Chinese students with buddies. 

The exchange programme, scheduled from May to August 2025, has brought together 40 students from the School of Medicine and Life Science, Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, who joined the programme at Mae Fah Laung University. Simultaneously, 24 students from Mae Fah Luang University are participating in the programme at Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. 

This three-month exchange programme, part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Thailand–China diplomatic relations, aims to provide students from both universities with an opportunity to immerse themselves in academic learning, cultural exchange, and personal growth. It also seeks to strengthen collaboration between two universities, particularly in the fields of integrative medicine and traditional Chinese medicine. Students have a chance to exchange knowledge while learning new techniques in traditional medicine, a shared interest of both universities in advancing medical knowledge rooted in both modern and traditional systems.
