Napneung Workshop on HIV, Hepatitis B and C, and Syphilis Testing and Counseling Services

      On 17 December 2018, the French-Upper Mekong Sub-region Academic Cooperation Centre at MFU in collaboration with the Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences at Chiang Mai University and the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development held the Napneung workshop at M-Square Building, Mae Fah Luang Univertsity.

      Napneung is a research project conducted by the Program for HIV Prevention and Treatment (PHPT), a collaborative program between the Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences at Chiang Mai University and the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development. Napneung project aims at evaluating new methods to increase the uptake of testing and counseling services for HIV, hepatitis B and C and syphilis in the public health system.

      The purpose of this workshop was to discuss possibility of academic cooperation for knowledge exchange and joint research between MFU and French institutions. The cooperation will lead to a campaign for preventing the spread of infectious diseases in education institution, and an easier access to HIV, hepatitis B and C, and syphilis testing and counseling services for MFU students, personnel, lecturers as well as people in Chiang Rai province.  

      In the workshop, there were the opening speeches by Ambassador of France to Thailand, H.E. Mr. Jacques Lapouge and President of Mae Fah Luang University Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vanchai Sirichana followed by introduction of the project by Dean of Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences, Chiang Mai University, Assist. Prof. Dr. Wasana Sirirungsi; and Director of the PHPT and IRD researcher, Dr. Gonzague Jourdain.

      Altogether, this workshop is a starting point for further collaboration between MFU and French organizations in health promotion and disease prevention.
