On 18 June 2025, Mae Fah Luang University led by the Global Relations Division, the School of Social Innovation, the Myanmar Students’ Organisation, and the Human Rights Club, collaborated with SEM Sikkharai (under the Sathirakoses-Nagapradipa Foundation), Friends Without Borders Foundation, Joy House, and other partner organisations to host the “Myanmar Film Tour 2025.”  This event commemorated World Refugee Day 2025, which falls each year on 20 June.

Dr. Nichan Singhaputargun, Acting Head of the Global Relations Division, presided over the opening ceremony. The event featured a discussion session titled “Transborder Crisis, Transborder Care,” led by Dr. Suebsakun Kidnukorn from the School of Social Innovation. Student representatives from the Human Rights Club and Myanmar Students’ Organisation joined the panel, sharing perspectives on transboundary crises, transnational care, human rights and active global citizenship. The session was designed to foster empathy, mutual understanding of cultural diversity, human migration, and peaceful coexistence, particularly in the context of shared resources and the environment. It encouraged engagement with faculty members, students, institutions, and others interested in social issues and international relations.

Following the panel, short films related to Myanmar were screened, portraying stories and the impact of the ongoing internal crises on Myanmar refugees. These included:

  • From Thai to Chinlone Myanmar by Theerayut Weerakham
  • Exodus by Taimoor Sobhan
  • Eainway Diary by Camellia
  • Displaced – Inside Out by Ryan Libre and Yawng Htang
  • Holding On to the Dream by Joni
  • A Train in Dream by Yeyint

Migration is a global issue, and Thailand is among the countries impacted by violence and unrest in neighboring regions. This film screening event aimed to shed light on these situations and their effects on individuals, while also creating a space for dialogue that promotes understanding and encourages stronger relationships between Thai and Myanmar communities. The initiative also seeks to contribute to policy dialogue and social cohesion.

The “Myanmar Film Tour 2025,” organised by SEM Sikkharai (under the Sathirakoses-Nagapradipa Foundation) and its partners, is being held throughout June 2025 in multiple locations, including Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Mae Sot, and international venues such as Indonesia and India. MFU is delighted to join this significant event, highlighting the university’s commitment to promoting peace, humanitarian support, well-being and a sustainable future.
