On 25 February 2026, representatives from Mae Fah Luang University (MFU), led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Romyen Kosaikanont and Ms. Wannapha Thippayasak, Head of the Global Relations Division, paid courtesy visits to the Consul-General of Japan and the Consul of India in Chiang Mai. The visits aimed to strengthen existing diplomatic ties and explore new avenues for academic cooperation.

MFU and the Consulate of India have a history of successful collaboration, notably co-hosting the International Day of Yoga in 2024 and 2025. In a meeting with Mr. Pranav Ganesh, Consul of India, discussions focused on potential partnerships between MFU and Indian institutions in fields of Information Technology, medicinal plants, and wellness.

The MFU delegation subsequently met with Mr. HARADA Masaru, Consul-General of Japan, and Mr. SUGIKI Takahiro, Vice Consul, to reaffirm the university's long-standing relationship with Japan. MFU currently maintains an active partnership network of 18 Japanese partner universities and one organisation. Key highlights of this partnership include Double Degree programmes with Chiba, Shinshu, and Kagoshima Universities, as well as visiting scholar programmes and student exchanges through the AIMS programme and Off-Campus Activities (OCA) projects. During the meeting, both parties discussed further enhancing cooperation through joint cultural and academic events.

During the visits, Asst. Prof. Dr. Romyen Kosaikanont, Vice President extended invitations to both consulates to participate in the upcoming International Festival. The event will provide a platform for India and Japan to share insights on their economic potential and educational opportunities with the MFU community and the people of Chiang Rai.

The courtesy visits underscore MFU’s ongoing commitment of fostering international academic collaboration and broadening the global perspectives of its students, staff, and the local community. By providing exposure to diverse cultures and international expertise, the university aims to cultivate global citizens—graduates equipped with the cross-cultural competencies and adaptability required to work and live harmoniously with people from all nations.
