On 16 May 2026, the Global Relations Division hosted the "MFU Smart Rider 2026", a safe driving training programme, for over 70 Thai and international MFU students at M-Square. This initiative was designed to cultivate a culture of road safety by fostering both theoretical understanding and practical riding proficiency among the student bosy. The programme featured hands-on simulations and accident prevention techniques to ensure students are well-prepared for their daily commutes.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Romyen Kosaikanont, Vice President, presided over the event and welcomed expert instructors from the Honda Safety Riding Park Chiang Mai, including Mr. Sittichai Chaisen, Mr. Klanarong Tonmit, Mr. Jatuporn Kanthawang, and Mr. Jaturong Saksaen.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Romyen Kosaikanont shared with participants that road safety is shaped by many factors, with a society’s culture and the philosophical foundations being among the most important. She encouraged international students living in Thailand to learn and understand local traffic regulations, essential driving safety, proper road manners, driving skills, vehicle readiness, and mutual respect for fellow road users.

Reflecting on her own experience studying in the United Kingdom, Dr. Romyen recounted the process of obtaining a driver’s license, which required passing theoretical and practical examinations. She noted that even experienced drivers were required to take driving lessons, as road culture and practices differ significantly.

Dr. Romyen emphasised to the attending international and Thai students that traffic behavior reflects the broader values of a society. While road regulations are generally well-designed, true safety depends entirely on consistent adherence to those rules and shared respect among all members of the community.

Mae Fah Luang University consistently prioritises the safety and well-being of its campus community. As motorcycles serve as the primary mode of transportation for many students, understanding traffic regulations and developing responsible riding habits are crucial for personal safety and daily well-being. Ultimately, the event served as an engaging platform for students to connect, share experiences, and collaborate toward building a safer university community.
