MFU Medical Center Hospital Joins Thailand–Laos Cross-Border Healthcare Initiative

From 14 to 15 May 2026, representatives from the Mae Fah Luang University Medical Center Hospital led by Chanatip Pramvichai, M.D., participated in a meeting focused on developing a cross-border patient referral system between Chiang Rai Province and Bokeo Province, Lao PDR. Hosted at the Namkhong Riverside Hotel in Chiang Khong District, the meeting was organised by the Chiang Rai Provincial Public Health Office, in collaboration with Chiang Khong Crown Prince Hospital.

The session was jointly chaired by Mr. Narong Luecha, Deputy Director of the Chiang Rai Provincial Public Health Office (representing the Thai delegation), and Mr. Khamdaeng Douangpraseuth, Deputy Director of the Bokeo Provincial Health Department (representing the Lao delegation). Representatives from public health organistions of both countries also actively participated in the discussions.

The objective of the meeting was to exchange operational approaches, strengthen coordination mechanisms, and enhance the efficiency of cross-border patient referrals to ensure timely, safe, and highly professional medical transfers. The initiative is expected to improve healthcare accesses for communities living along the border.

This active participation underscores MFU’s ongoing commitment to being a “University for Well-being and a Sustainable Future” by consistently extending high-quality educational opportunities and healthcare services to communities across the Greater Mekong Subregion.
