21 Years of Quality Education: Moving Towards a Leading University in the Region and the World

On 25 September 2019, Mae Fah Luang University celebrated its 21st anniversary with joy and happiness for its noteworthy milestones and myriad achievements. MFU’s celebration began with alms offerings to 160 monks followed by a ceremony to pay homage to the royal statue of HRH Princess Srinagarindra, a religious ceremony, a public report, a presentation of certificates and a scholarship presentation at the Princess Srinagarindra Auditorium (C4).

Since 1998, MFU has been widely recognised as one of the region’s fastest growing institutions serving both Thailand and the ASEAN community with academic and research excellence.

As a result of its continued support of research and its internationalisized environment, this year, Mae Fah Luang University was grouped in the 601-800 band in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) 2020 World University Rankings and scored highly in the research citation and international outlook categories.

The President of MFU, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chayaporn Wattanasiri said that the most important thing to move forward is to enhance the calibre of all its lecturers and staff to support the university’s missions. Moreover, the university must adopt new technology to enhance the efficiency and convenience of the management system. For research, the university will stress innovation and research for commercial purposes in order to gain academic recognition and increase the university’s income.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chayaporn Wattanasiri added that one thing the university needs to prepare for the changing world is to adopt new learning approaches for the new generation. Apart from the classroom, the university need to establish more learning pathways such as online learning or self-learning.  The University also needs to create a variety of flexible courses in cooperation with the industrial and private sectors to improve the specific skills and meet the needs of different groups of people so that region’s development will be sustainable.
