MFU Leads Thai Universities in THE Asia University Rankings 2020

Out of under 500 universities from 30 territories (16 of which were Thai higher education institutions), Mae Fah Luang University was ranked 2nd in Thailand, 8th in ASEAN and 134th in Asia in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2020, released on 3 June 2020.   

MFU scored highly in the research citation and international outlook categories which were 74.4 and 50.6 respectively. The average citation per paper of MFU is 13.44 and the 58 percent of MFU’s total research journal publications have international co-authors. The high scores for research citations highlight the prominence of MFU’s continued support, influence and inspiration for its researchers to build knew bodies of knowledge and disseminate them to the global audience. Moreover, the proportion of international students, international staff and international collaboration reflects MFU’s internationalisized environment, a factor that attracts undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as faculty members, from all over the world. 

The University will make all the necessary effort to maintain its national academic leadership status and to make our institution become one of the top 10 leading university in ASEAN that serves society with high-quality research, teaching and internationalized activities.  

The Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2020 use the same 13 performance indicators covering universities’ core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook as the THE World University Rankings, but the indicators are recalibrated to reflect the attributes of Asia’s institutions. The performance indicators are grouped into five areas: Teaching (the learning environment); Research (volume, income andreputation); Citations (research influence); International outlook (staff, students and research); and Industry Income (knowledge transfer).
