Mae Fah Luang University was ranked 1st in Thailand and in the 151-200 band in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings 2020, released on 24 June 2020.
This rankings listed the world’s best universities that are 50 years old or younger. Out of 414 universities from 66 territories (3 of which were Thai higher education institutions), Mae Fah Luang University was ranked 1st in Thailand, 6th in ASEAN and in the 151-200 band of the world.
MFU scored highly in the research citation and international outlook categories which were 74.4 and 50.6 respectively. The citation impact highlights the prominence of MFU’s continued support to build knew bodies of knowledge and disseminate them to the global audience. Moreover, the international outlook reflects MFU’s internationalisized environment, a factor that attracts undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as faculty members, from all over the world.
THE Young University Rankings 2020 are based on the same metrics as THE World University Rankings to reflect young universities’ missions, with less emphasis on reputational surveys and more on factors such as research productivity, staff-student ratios, institutional income and doctoral education. The performance indicators are grouped into five areas: Teaching (the learning environment); Research (volume, income and reputation); Citations (research influence); International outlook (staff, students and research); and Industry Income (knowledge transfer).
