A Visit from the UN Resident Coordinator in Thailand

      On 6 August 2020, Mae Fah Luang University President, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chayaporn Wattanasiri welcomed an introductory visit from the new United Nations Resident Coordinator in Thailand, Ms. Gita Sabharwal.

      During the visit, the UN Resident Coordinator shared the UN’s missions to support inclusive and sustainable development in Thailand including the cooperation with Chiang Rai province to tackle drug-related issues and crime.

     MFU’ executives also shared the university’s best practices in solving severe air pollution problem in Chiang Rai province, measures the university has strictly implemented to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and assistances offered to support students and the community.

     With an aim to develop innovation to promote well-being of Thai people with the partners, the UN Resident Coordinator and MFU executives considered holding a panel discussion on joint research at MFU and conducting survey of young generation’s perspectives toward social problems. Additionally, the UN Resident Coordinator, Ms. Gita Sabharwal invited MFU President, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chayaporn Wattanasiri to be a keynote speaker for the UN forum on waste management.

      Altogether, the visit from the UN in Thailand provided the chance for MFU to take further action in support Thailand and the region to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
