The School of Medicine’s Ultrasound Rice Gel Wins the Invention Award

Mae Fah Luang University would like to congratulate lecturers from the School of Medicine for winning "the Good Level of Invention Award” in the “Invention and Innovation Contest, Fiscal year 2021”, held by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT). This year, 550 research articles were submitted nationwide.

Lecturers from the School of Medicine, MFU who co-invented the ultrasound gel from rice starch were Prof. Supakorn Rojananin, M.D.; Assoc. Prof. Sittiporn Punyanitya, M.D.; and Arnon Jumlongkul, M.D. This rice-based gel is intended to be a coupling agent for usage in ultrasonic application, which made from blending of rice starch powder, sodium hydroxide, carboxymethyl cellulose, glycerin, and water with the environment friendly processes. The imaging results revealed that, when compared with standard ultrasound gel, rice gel can produce equal clearness but with better echogenicity. It is also easy to wash off and clean after use.

Additional information:
